He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8, NRSV
As people who are seeking to be fully devoted followers
of Jesus Christ, we believe that we are called to live out our
lives following the two great commandments. The second is
the biblical call to love our neighbor. Believers fulfill this
commandment in the way we live with and treat people. As the Body
of Christ we organize our outreach and evangelical efforts into
what we call Missions.
Horne Memorial UMC takes Missions seriously. We believe that
every believer is called by God to be engaged in at least one
particular mission. Horne offers a number of ways to be directly
involved in missions since we are supportive of so many. The menu to the
left will take you to some of the missions we are involved with as a
congregation. We also provide a number of external links to web sites
provided by various missions organizations that we support.
In 2005 our youth ministry will be involved in local and national missions.
We are also organizing a work team to go to Russia to work with our
sister congregtion there.
We are always looking for volunteers to serve as Mission Advocates.
These are people who feel a call to help with a particular mission and are
willing to work to promote it and be its advocate before the congregation.
If you feel a call to a particular mission please
let Pastor
Swartz know about it.
Another church organization that is involved in missions is our United Methodist Women (UMW).
You can learn more about the UMW on their page.
Missionaries We Support
Greg Jenks
From Greg...“In the summer of 2003 God began to burden my heart for the African children orphaned in the AIDS pandemic. I sensed that Christ was calling me to lead our Annual Conference in caring for these suffering children. I am convinced that this is the hour that the church needs to respond to the devastating suffering of the little ones in Zimbabwe. As God has begun opening doors, I am prepared to serve as a full-time missionary liason, linking hearts and resources in North Carolina with the incredible needs in Zimbabwe. For this vision to become a reality I need you to partner with me both through your prayers and financial contributions. The doors for this partnership with Zimbabwe are wide open. The moment is now. We have the opportunity to change the lives and futures of thousands of suffering children.”
